Optimize workloads for cloud

Mike Kail, who’s the Chief Technology Officer at cloud solutions firm PrimaryIO, says this could be a result of workloads not being optimized for cloud.

“Repatriation usually happens as a result of workloads being migrated or lifted and shifted to the cloud without optimizing them,” he says. “You have to optimize your applications and workloads to get the full benefit.”

Despite the overall positivity, 24% of organizations are planning to move a proportion of their apps or workloads from the cloud into traditional IT estate in the next three years. This process is generally referred to as “repatriation”.

Repatriation is more of an infrastructure workload conversation—it’s not a business value conversation. If your goal for moving workloads to the cloud is transformation and modernization of business processes, then repatriation is not a viable option.
